In 2018, Kachell Morris, from Guyana, was a SpineHope patient in Austin, Texas who received life-saving and life-changing medical treatment for her severe Kyphoscoliosis. Her journey included several weeks in Halo Gravity Traction and corrective spine surgery. She was a strong warrior throughout it all and said she felt like she transformed into a beautiful butterfly physically, mentally, and emotionally.
“I’m grateful for my wonderful journey. Since having spine surgery in 2018 to fix my severe Kyphoscoliosis, I’m loving and embracing my scars and am achieving my goals. I’m now working as a nurse. It wasn’t my dream job at the time. But, after after being cared for in Austin, Texas and seeing everything the nurses did to take great care of me, it changed me in a positive way. I will now do the same for others and be a hard working nurse taking care of every patient that comes my way because I know what it’s like being in a hospital bed.”
Kachell wanted to also pass on this personal thank you to her supporters here in Austin, Texas: “I’m grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity given to me by generous, kind and amazing individuals and organizations including: The Caribbean Children Foundation (my Angel Sponsor); Dell Children’s Medical Center/ Ascension nurses, doctors and staff (my angels); surgeons Dr. Matthew Geck (and team at Seton Spine and Scoliosis Center) AND Dr. Ryan Murdock (and team at Central Texas Pediatric Orthopedics); Dr. Michael Josephs and staff at Austin Pediatric Surgery; Dr. Royce Hayes, Dr. Genevieve Mounce, Dr. Nicholas Lee, Dr. Jon Filardi and team at US Anesthesia Partners; Dr. Timothy George at Dell Children’s Medical Center; Dr. Virginia Harrod at Dell Children’s Medical Center; Mr. Brandon Black and Medtronic Spine USA (my implant donors); Mr. Wynn Gordy and NuVasive, Inc.
